Here is a picture of my five year plan.
You will notice that it’s blank and that is because I do not actually have one. Now you may well ask “Why do you not have any long term goals AJ’? To which I would reply… ‘ Mind your own business” or I could give you the simple answer. An answer so simple that it consists of one word only…………….
O P P O R T U N I T Y …..
We have all heard of that great saying ………
Dear optimists, pessimists, and realists,
While you were all arguing over the glass of water, I just drank it.
Sincerely, an opportunist.
Well that my friends is me I am an opportunist and if there isn’t one then I simply try and create one, which is a much more productive and beneficial than to sit and wait or opportunity to come knocking.
Now as an opportunist my long term goals may in fact restrict my short term gains. Each new path I take may well send me down different routes and lead me away from my initial goal. However this path may be much more exciting, more rewarding , push my boundaries more and reveal new skills I never new I possessed.
Now if this kind of excitement is sounding attractive and you wish to join us opportunists then you have to accept and embrace one thing.
R I S K
Now all opportunities you seize may not work out but without risk there is no reward an as the man himself T.S Elliot once said….
“Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go”.
During the last week I have seen fellow bloggers on Twitter saying how they are now feeling that they should shy away from controversial topics which they are covering probably to help them acheive their “plan” due to the risk of hateful comments.
If this is how you feel I have this piece of advice….
Risk is like throwing yourself head first into a storm and building your umbrella on the way through.
thoughtless risks of course are destruction …..However thoughtless caution which leads you not to act will only encourage the failure to seize yes you guessed it…
O P P O R T U N I T Y.
So now I have linked it all into one big loop for you cast your eye over your one, two , three or five year plans again.
How do you feel about them now ??
